Advice and support for young workers
Are you new to the workforce? Do you need help to settle into your workplace and understand your rights and responsibilities in regards to working, career planning and leaving a job?

Settling into your new workplace helps young people to understand their workplace’s culture and settle into their new job.

Knowing your workplace rights and responsibilities helps young people understand their rights and responsibilities in regards to pay and conditions, health and safety and workplace bullying.

Planning your career helps young people to understand how to use their first job as a stepping stone to future career opportunities.

Moving on provides information on the ‘right’ way to leave a job, what young people need to do before leaving a job, timeframes for notice and how to ask for a reference.

Starting  a new job – interactive quiz and videos
Starting a new job is a free and interactive online learning course that combines videos and quizzes to help young people understand their workplace rights and obligations. The course helps young people understand what questions to ask their employers, know what’s expected of them in a job and debunks some common workplace myths.

The course takes 20 to 30 minutes to complete and users have the option of registering their details to record learning, pause and resume courses, access assessments and download completion certificates.

Your first job – guide and checklist
The Fair Work Ombudsman’s guide for young workers provides a range of important information for young people starting a new job, including things to know before starting a job, as well as information on pay and conditions, rights at work and workplace health and safety. There is also a checklist and some helpful hints at the end of the guide.
